It’s hard to imagine that anyone who has worked for a company actually thinks the government should be managed like one. We all know the tropes and we’ve all suffered the consequences. Narrow focus on quarters, bottom lines, and executive bonuses with nothing but the promise of layoffs for people who actually do the work that makes the company money. (Unions exist for a reason!)
Government’s slow bureaucracy, while often frustrating, is the point. “Moving fast and breaking things” in the age of globalization means breaking systems that cannot be fixed again. It means planes falling from the sky and uncontrolled disease outbreaks that can kill millions of people. It means measles outbreaks that kill children and COVID19 2.0.
None of this matters to the CEO Dictator. For them, lives are the cost of doing business in the never-ending quest for profit and growth. America is not better off under this model, it’s a hellscape.
The people who manage the systems that keep us safe are known collectively as our federal workforce.
They are our public servants who take on the thankless jobs that keep our food safe, our planes in the air, and our banks from collapsing. These are not people who can, or should, care about the bottom line because their successes and failures are measured in human lives. That is why governments are not run like companies. Because when a government is run like a company, people die and the public is endangered.
Now, those public servants are the boogeymen of the right. They are maligned as unelected bureaucrats hellbent on using your tax dollars to create transgender tadpoles in Mozambique. The CEO dictator wants you to believe that American workers making $75,000 a year are the problem and not the billions in taxpayer dollars that subsidize that same CEO’s companies.
The real perpetrators of unelected influence in our government are the billionaire techno-futurists and floods of dark money buying our elections. Behind their promises of inhabiting Mars lies the much less interesting, and much scarier, reality that they are fleecing the American public into selling our freedoms for the perception of efficiency.
America was built on opposing the tyrannical rule of Kings. Patriotism in 2025 is opposing the tyrannical rule of CEO dictators, hellbent on creating a new underclass that serves no one but them.
